Tom DeBerg

THOMAS E. DEBERG graduated from Grinnell College in 1964 with a major in psychology and a minor in economics. He interned in psychology at the Veterans Hospitals in Knoxville, Iowa and Iowa City, Iowa. He attended the University of Wisconsin and received Masters Degrees in 1971 and 1973 in Counseling and in Social Work, respectively. Mr. DeBerg has worked extensively with delinquent and dependent children as a treatment coordinator and a therapist, and has also worked with neurologically impaired children in education and treatment programs. His social work background has allowed him to work with persons receiving home health care, as well as individual and family counseling with severely and terminally ill patients. In 1983, Mr. DeBerg graduated Cum Laude from Stetson Law School. While in law school, he consulted with social workers and worked as a teaching assistant in Research and Writing and participated in the Public Defender's Clinic. Mr. DeBerg received the President's Award for his contributions on the Board of the Phillipino Club of Pinellas County.

Mr. DeBerg has spent the last 19 years as an attorney with The Florida Bar Professional Regulation Division, prosecuting disciplinary cases related to virtually every area of law and arguing appeals before The Florida Supreme Court. While at The Florida Bar, Mr. DeBerg established the first Florida Bar Consumer Complaint Resolution Program and, for two years, ran the pilot program. After program statistics were presented to The Florida Bar Board of Governors, the program was adopted statewide. Mr. DeBerg has spoken on numerous occasions to various Bar associations and at the Stetson Law School on professional responsibility.

Mr. DeBerg has been a member of the Family Law section of The Florida Bar for 15 years. Mr. DeBerg has extensive experience with cases related to child support, paternity and custody issues, and elder law issues.
